Futaba Radios
I fly using Futaba radios. It is due to my personal preference and does not imply in any way that other manufacturer's radios are worse or better. I've started with Futaba 6EXA - a six channel computer radio. I progressed to 7CAP, than 9C Super, and currently I am using the newly released 10C. I've also switched from FM ppm/pcm to FASST 2.4 GHz. I have experienced with different 2.4 GHz systems and after some failures and much research came to conclusion that Futaba's FASST system is best, most robust and least prompt to interference. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with Spectrum and JR, I just like the hopping ability of FASST system. I also like the ease of instalation - one receiver, two short antennas. I've also experimented with the "XPS Extreme Link system" - I was very disappointed and had many problems which almost caused me to loose one of my planes. The system did not apper to work as advertized and was prommpt to interference. I know that XPS has made changes and now the system does hop, as advertized but I would not recommend this system to any one who is flying with large, high dollar planes any way. I suppose it will do for park flyers and foamies. I also was disappointed with their support, or lack of it. The fact that you cannot contact them by phone, rather only by email speaks for itself.
To recap - in my personal opinion the best 2.4GHz on the market right now is Futaba's FASST, followed closely by Spectrum/JR. Those are the two top "dogs".
Both Futaba 9C super and 10C are modular, which means they both can transmit on FM and 2.4GHz frequencies, depending on which module is inserted in the radio. The one major difference between the two is that 10C is a digital radio - because there is no need to convert analog signal to digital one, there is virtually no lag in response - this was the first thing I noticed when I started using 10C radio, a lot faster response....
Futaba 10C
10C's programming is just like 9C supper with addition of a couple of new options which are mainly geared toward the 2.4GHz side.
