Current Project
Extreme Flight 1.60 Yak 54
This is my new project - it is the 1.60 size, 74" span Yak 54 from Extreme Flight. It was given to me by Eugene and Pete. It will require some work, but once done it will be a perfect second plane for my son Brandon. At the moment the landing gear is thorn out, fire wall needs some attention, and the counter balance of the rudder is smashed.... I am going to get it all fixed up and by next season Brandon will start flying it.... Since it was set up for ZDZ 40 I am going to stay with that engine - I have one in my Ultimate, so it will be a direct bolt on, while my Ultimate will get new, bigger ZDZ 50 NG..... Bellow are some pictures of the plane as it is now...
2010-10-30 We have started to work on the Yak - after we stripped the monokote from the damaged rudder and fuselage, it become apparent that this is not going to be a five minute fix - there is a lot more damage done to the fuse than I originally thought. We started with the easy stuff first - rudders counterbalance - we had to rebuild the top of the counterbalance - no big deal - a little of CA, some new balsa, some epoxy filler and it will be like brand new....
2010-11-04 Today we covered the fuse and mounted the landing gear - I still have to do some "touch up" on the covering - little more time with the heat gun and it will be perfect... LOL. Now we can turn our attention to the fire wall...

2010-11-02 Today I finished rebuilding the landing gear mount - I used 1/4" aircraft plywood and reused stock aluminum brackets. After the mount is epoxied in, I am going to reinforce it with some 3/8" square basswood and BVM aeropoxy...
Today we finished all repaires on the Yak, and applied graphics package provided by BadBradGraphics.com. ...
